You are given a number of choices in your list building efforts: Ask, Overture, Google Suggestion Tool, Meta Tags, Yahoo and Misspelled Keywords.
Ask.com is primarily a site where people ask a question about any topic. By using Ask.com you can easily find some long tail keywords that people are looking for on that topic. The database used by Ask is up to three years old.
By choosing Overture you will get a list of keywords that people are actually typing primarily into the Yahoo search engine. This database is up to three months old. It does not give misspelt keywords.
The Google Suggestion Tool is used to find out what people have actually been clicking on in people's pay per click campaigns and the keywords they clicked on to get there. You can use this to create targeted pay per click titles and even to create quality content for your web pages.
By selecting meta-tags you will be telling the search engines to tell you what keywords are on people's pages. This doesn't reveal what keywords people are searching for. Instead it's revealing how webmasters have optimized their pages to get visitors to their webpages.
By then matching the meta tags search with the results from the Google suggestion tool, Ask.com and Overture.com and do on-page optimization for your websites, Adsense revenue or free search engine marketing.
By using Yahoo you will get results of the niche keywords that are indexed in the Yahoo search engine.
Misspelled keywords is a great tool as only around 10 percent of people who surf the net are actually English speaking. What this tool will do is it will take most of the vowels and letters and substitute them. Sometimes a common misspelling will give good results if added to your meta-tags.
There are other keyword tools, one of which is Wordtracker. Using Wordtracker will reveal to you the keywords that have been searched for in just 24 hours ago.
